「A Modern Homage to an Ancient Drama」
This incense was born from a moment of obsession.
Like many, I fell in love with the fragrance lore in the Chinese drama Empresses in the Palace. In the story, the Emperor gifts Consort Xi a special incense called Goose Pear Central Censer, said to bring peaceful sleep and sweet dreams. I watched that scene and knew I had to recreate that feeling.
But I didn't want to use a regular pear. I searched for something more unique.
I found it in Xinjiang Wenpo (Quince). Unlike common pears, Wenpo is a rare, ancient fruit from the Silk Road. It has a drier, more sophisticated floral-citrus sweetness that doesn't turn cloying when burned.
The challenge was balancing the fruit with the wood. I sourced precious Chenxiang (Aloeswood) and Sandalwood from different regions, testing countless ratios. Too much fruit, and it smells like a candle; too much wood, and it loses its magic.
Finally, Nest Dreamswas born.
It opens with a soft, golden fruitiness — the Wenpo note is subtle, like dried apricots and honey. Then, the deep, resinous warmth of the aged woods rises up, holding the sweetness close to the earth. It smells like a quiet palace chamber at night, safe and still.
Light this when you need to rest. Let the drama fade away, and let your thoughts settle into the nest.
